Austria spring a surprise but Poland torn apart
International update
The current round of international fixtures means that a few of our players are still yet to begin their summer break. Among those in action were Michael Gregoritsch, whse Austria team picked up a valuable point against France. At the other end of the spectrum, Robert Gumny’s Poland were hammered by Belgium.
With new head coach Ralf Rangnick at the helm, Austria fought to a fantastic 1-1 draw with France on matchday three of the UEFA Nations League. Andreas Weimann put Austria ahead before Kylian Mbappé levelled things up. Michael Gregoritsch came in the 64th minute. Austria’s final game of the international period is against Denmark on Monday, 13th June.
It’s been a less enjoyable Nations League for Robert Gumny and Poland so far. They suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat in Belgium with Gumny playing the full 90 minutes. They did, however, earn a point with a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands. On Tuesday, 14th June, the Poles will have a chance to get revenge at home to Belgium.
Denmark U21s have suffered a slight setback in their campaign to qualify for the Euros. They could only manage a 1-1 draw with Scotland and are now six points behind leaders Belgium, albeit with a game in hand. Frederik Winther played the full game once again. They will face Turkey on Tuesday.
Carlos Gruezo has also been in action in another friendly for Ecuador. The planned game against Mail was called off and so they faced off against Cape Verde instead. Gruezo played the full game as Ecuador triumphed 1-0.
