A look back at day two of the international U15 tournament
FCA's U15 come back against Puskás Akadémia
On Saturday, the preliminary round of the international U15 cup took place at the Paul Renz Academy. Read on for an account of all of the action.
After a 0-0 draw in the opening game between FC Augsburg and Real Salt Lake, the crowd were able to celebrate some goals on Saturday morning. Despite an early opening goal for Dinamo Zagreb, Silkeborg IF did not give up, and managed to turn the game around and celebrate a win in their very first game (2-1). In a game going on at the same time, Borussia Dortmund drew 0-0 with the Luxemburg national team.
FCA in narrow loss to Juventus
The next game was a real highlight for the host team, with the opportunity to play Italian side Juventus. Juventus created pressure from the beginning and hardly gave Augsburg an opportunity to take in breath. FCA's goalkeeper Patrick Koch was to thank on multiple occasions for the game remaining goalless. Shortly before the break, the Augsburg team came close to scoring, but neither shots by Mato Müller or Anthony Paulic found the back of the net. In the second half, the Augsburg goalkeeper was powerless as the Old Lady took the lead through a powerful shot from the edge of the box. As the game came to its conclusion, FCA pushed forward once again, but met by a strong defence they were unable to make a breakthrough and Juventus finished winners 1-0. At the same time, Puskás Akadémia defeated Real Salt Lake by the same score line (1-0).
More goals after the opening ceremony
After the official opening ceremony, Shakhtar Donetsk took to the pitch for the first time. The team from Ukraine exploded into action and beat Luxemburg 3-0. On the other pitch, Silkeborg IF yet again won 2-1, this time against Borussia Dortmund.
After that, FCA were in action once again. With one point from two games, the hosts wanted to pick up a win against Puskás Akadémia. The visitors, however, took the lead. This did not put Augsburg off, and through two Dustin Buck goals and one from Tim Schnitzer, they managed to turn the game around and win 3-1, their first win of the tournament. At the same time, Juventus achieved another win, this time against BSC Young Boys (1-0). Two games from Group B followed, with Borussia Dortmund clear winners against Dinamo Zagreb (3-0), and Shakhtar Donetsk overcoming Silkeborg IF 2-0.
The Augsburg side now had wind in their sails as they took on BSC Young Boys, but against a high and aggressive press FCA could find no way through. The side was losing 3-0 at half time, before eventually succumbing to a 4-0 loss.
The continuation of the tournament was interrupted by adverse weather and the two following games had to be paused several times. Eventually though, Juventus managed to narrowly win 1-0 against Real Salt Lake, while the game between BVB and Shakhtar Donetsk was full of action and goals, finishing 2-2.
