Vargas makes an assist in Switzerland win
Bauer and Engels also win their final friendly matches
Ruben Vargas and the Switzerland national team secured a narrow 2-1 win in their European Championship qualifier against Andorra. The U21 European Championship participants Maximilian Bauer and Arne Engels were also victorious.
Just seven minutes into the match, Ruben Vargas, who was on the pitch until the 61st minute, set up Remo Freuler’s opening goal with a great through ball. Zeki Amdouni increased the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute, but Switzerland had to hold on for their third win in three qualifying matches when Andorra reduced the deficit. The next match for Switzerland is against Romania on Monday 19th June (20:45 CEST).
A few days before the start of the U21 European Championship (21st June to 8th July), Germany U21s celebrated a successful dress rehearsal. Antonio Di Salvo’s team played four lots of 30 minutes behind closed doors. In the end, they defeated the Switzerland U21 team 3-1. The goals were scored by Kevin Schade, Jessic Ngankam and Nelson Weiper, while FCA defender Maximilian Bauer was allowed to play the second 60 minutes. On Thursday 22nd June (18:00 CEST), the Germany U21s will start their European Championship campaign against Israel.
Belgium’s U21s also won their final friendly ahead of the U21 European Championship. They beat Israel, Germany’s first group opponent, 2-0. Arne Engels was substituted on in the 67th minute and can also hope for game time at the European Championship, when Belgium face the Netherlands (21st June), Georgia (24th June) and Portugal (27th June).
On Saturday evening (20:45 CEST), Tomáš Koubek and the Czech Republic national team will face the Faroe Islands, and one day later Dion Beljo will play the Nations League final as Croatia take on Spain in Rotterdam (20:45 CEST).
