Simon Asta joins Fürth
Two Bundesliga appearances for FC Augsburg
FC Augsburg have agreed the transfer of right-back Simon Asta to SpVgg Greuther Fürth on the final day of the transfer window. The 19-year-old, whose contract with FCA was due to expire on 30th June 2021, will join Fürth with immediate effect. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
Simon Asta made two appearances in the Bundesliga for Augsburg. He made his debut aged 17 on the last day of the 2017/18 season, playing the last 10 minutes of the 2-0 defeat in Freiburg. One year later, on the final day of the 2018/19 season, he made his first start for FCA in the 8-1 defeat in Wolfsburg. The defender ruptured his cruciate ligament in last season’s winter training camp but has now recovered from the injury, making one appearance for the U23s this season.
“After his injury, we wanted to offer Simon the opportunity to get some minutes under his belt with the U23s before returning to fight for a place in the starting XI. However, the move to Fürth in the Bundesliga 2 offers a new sporting challenge, so we have agreed to the transfer. We wish Simon all the best for his future development,” said Stefan Reuter, sporting director of FCA.
“I’m feeling fit and ready to go after my injury. I want to make the most of this opportunity in the Bundesliga 2 and I’m very happy with the move. I want to thank FC Augsburg for allowing me to pursue this chance,” said Simon Asta of his transfer.
