Schlotterbeck: "A fantastic feeling!"
Post-match reaction to 2-1 home win against Heidenheim
FC Augsburg celebrated their third win in the last ten days at home against 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon. A last-minute goal from Keven Schlotterbeck secured all three points in front of a sold-out crowd at the WWK ARENA. Read on for all the post-match reaction from Augsburg.
Keven Schlotterbeck: "That was incredible! To score the winning goal with the last kick of the game is a fantastic feeling. I think we played well over the course of the 90 minutes, even if Heidenheim were slightly better in the second half. In the end, we were a bit lucky to get the win, but that's just how things are in football – the three points ended up with us. Looking at the table, it's allowed us to maintain the gap between us and Heidenheim. Huge compliments to the team, as we worked hard all game and did what we set out to do."
Noakhai Banks: "I was able to achieve a childhood dream of mine today, by making my first start. The last-minute goal, coupled with a home win, makes today even more special. We played well during the first half and up until the 60th minute after the break. Then, the momentum shifted a bit. Even after I was subbed off, I still had a feeling that we would be able to score again, and I'm extremely happy that we picked up all three points in the end."
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: "We took the lead at the right time and were able to take it into the break with us, before then getting the second half off to a strong start. To have won the game even after conceding an equaliser feels great. Keven was able to celebrate the perfect comeback today after his injury, so I'm really pleased for him! Noki Banks also made the most of the opportunity he was given and delivered a strong performance on his first start. The win was also the perfect way to say goodbye to our assistant coach, Jacob Friis."
Alexis Claude-Maurice: "It really was a crazy game and in the end, it was won by our defenders. We need every position to contribute if we want to be successful in the Bundesliga, which means that sometimes our defenders will have to be the ones to provide us with goals. We're enjoying a strong run of form at the minute and are playing with a lot of confidence and can showcase our strengths. This is exactly what we need to take with us into our upcoming games."
Jess Thorup, FCA head coach: "We're delighted to have won for the third straight game. Ten days ago, the main topic of discussion was the pressure of the relegation battle, and then before you know it, we've won three in a row. Our focus never wavered and we kept going from one game to the next. We were in control for a solid 60 minutes today and enjoyed plenty of possession, before deservedly taking the lead from a set piece. In the end, we kept believing in ourselves right until the end and also had luck on our side, something that hasn't always been the case this season. We're making great progress at the moment."
Frank Schmidt, FCH head coach: "The first half was evenly matched, but then we conceded just before half-time. We accepted the situation as it was and played extremely well in the second half, managing to create some chances for ourselves as well. We didn't give up and kept risking more and more, until we ended up scoring the equaliser. After that, we continued to push for a winner but that opened the door for our opponents, and we ultimately ended up losing."
