Pepi qualifies for World Cup – Gregoritsch scores in friendly
Austrian comes off the bench to score
On Tuesday and Wednesday, several FCA players were in action with their national teams, with Ricardo Pepi and the USMNT qualifying for the World Cup.
Despite a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Costa Rica, Ricardo Pepi and the USA have booked their tickets to the World Cup in Qatar. Juan Pablo Vargas and Anthony Contreras scored just after the break, as Pepi started and was subbed off at the hour mark.
After being eliminated in the play-offs against Wales (2-1), Austria faced Scotland in a friendly on Tuesday evening. Michael Gregoritsch was subbed on with his side 2-0 down, and immediately cut the deficit with a goal from off the bench. Bielefeld’s Alessandro Schöpf then netted an equaliser as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Ecuador, who have already qualified for the World Cup, were up against Argentina and Lionel Messi last night. Carlos Gruezo was taken off in the 73rd minute, with Ecuador netting a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
Andi Zeqiri made a cameo appearance in Switzerland’s friendly against Kosovo, coming on in the 81st minute to replace Salzburg’s Noah Okafor. Ruben Vargas was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw.
Mads Pedersen, who was called up on short notice for Denmark, was also an unused substitute against Serbia. The Danes celebrated a 3-0 victory as Christian Eriksen returned to the starting XI. Meanwhile, Frederik Winther played the full 90 minutes for the Denmark U21s in their EURO qualifier against Belgium (1-1).
