FC Augsburg are preparing intensely for their season finale at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (Saturday, 20th May 15:30 CEST) after their 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Dortmund. The team turned their focus towards this weekend today as they began training, and head coach Manuel Baum was there to share his thoughts following the session.
On the upcoming challenge in Hoffenheim: “If there is one thing we have learnt from the past, then it is only to focus on what we are doing. That is how we are going to approach the game in Hoffenheim. We want to get something out of it and how the other matches go is of no interest to us. Hoffenheim have been unbelievable this season and they deserve to be where they are in the table. It will be a tough one but we want to stay up by picking up points ourselves. It is what the players deserve after the way they have performed in recent weeks.”
On the goalscorer against Borussia Dortmund: “The game against BVB highlighted just how important Alfred Finnbogason is. He really helped the team, particularly by getting back, but he still got into the position to score the opening goal for us.”
On the goalkeeping situation: “We’ll have to see how Marwin Hitz’s injury progresses. He took part in a casual session on the bike. Andreas Luthe, who was sensational at the weekend, has been doing some recovery work. We’ve shown time and again this season that we are able to deal with injuries. We are always able to make up for players that are missing and that was the case with Marwin Hitz on Saturday.”
