It’s all systems go at the WWK ARENA once again as FC Augsburg have returned from their summer break and begin their preparations for the new season. Fans were able to see a few of the new faces as they introduced themselves on Monday on Tuesday. Recent arrival Ruben Vargas spoke on his first few days in FCA colours.
For Ruben Vargas, it was the first few training sessions as an Augsburg player. The young Swiss player has recently joined from Luzern in his home country’s top flight and is enthusiastic about his new city. “Augsburg is a very family-orientated club and I felt at ease straight away. The surroundings and the city are beautiful. Another very important factor for me was that the area would suit me.” Vargas has followed the Bundesliga for a long time and as such was well aware of the club, and the 20 year old had tracked his new team particularly since the first contact with Martin Schmidt. “The discussions with the coach were very good and convinced me to join. In Martin Schmidt not only do I have a good coach, but also a great contact, who I can talk to.”

Alongside Ruben Vargas, Florian Niederlechner also trained with his new teammates for the first time. The attacker expressed his views on the team. “We have only spent a little bit of time together, but the first impressions are very positive. I already know a few players a bit and I’m really looking forward the time ahead. I was really keen on coming to a family club like Augsburg and I’m pleased that the move came about.”
Stefan Reuter is also pleased to see the players back out on the training pitch and that the new season is just around the corner. “You can sense the anticipation amongst the boys in the changing rooms. Our new arrivals are also really fired up.” For Reuter, the pre-season goal is already clear: “We want to be well prepared for the start of the new season and show the fans a strong team.”
