On the 34th and final matchday of the 2017-18 season, one player made his first appearance in the Bundesliga for FC Augsburg. Simon Asta became the latest FCA youth player to make his Bundesliga debut. The exceptional part was that Simon Asta is only 17 years old and is therefore the club’s youngest Bundesliga player. He’s the first player born in 2001 to make an appearance in the German top flight.
Only a few days after his first Bundesliga appearance, FCA can now announce that the right-back has signed a professional contract until 30th June 2020 with an option. “Simon Asta has developed greatly in our youth system over the last few years. He’s been training with the first team for a few months now. He’s showing that he has the potential to make the step up to the Bundesliga,” FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter praises the 17-year-old.
“I was over the moon to come on in the Freiburg game and make my first Bundesliga appearance. It was a dream come true,” says Simon Asta. “The debut made me even hungrier for more and for that reason, I’ll give my all in the coming years to further develop and play in the Bundesliga as much as possible.”
