In the opening 5-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund, forward Florian Niederlechner scored the second-fastest goal in Augsburg’s Bundesliga history. Before the home game against 1. FC Union Berlin, the newcomer speaks about his start in Augsburg, striker Alfred Finnbogason and the game against Union Berlin.
It took exactly 31 seconds for you to enter the FC Augsburg history books when you gave the team a 1-0 lead in Dortmund.
My first goal in Dortmund…Yeah, I didn’t think it would start like that. Goals give strikers a lot of confidence and I obviously hope that my goal-scoring form continues.
Alfred Finnbogason was missing for the game at Dortmund. Do you think you two can play together at the same time?
We haven’t played together in training very often, but whenever we do, we always work well. I am very sure that we can develop a strong partnership.
We will give 110% on Saturday, I can promise – Florian Niederlechner
The first home game of the season against Union Berlin is on Saturday. Despite their 4-0 defeat against RB Leipzig, there is an incredible happiness amongst the Union Berlin supporters. That doesn’t make things any easier, right?
I have to honestly say that it doesn’t matter to me who we play. We were knocked out of the cup by Verl and we got battered by Dortmund. We will give 110% on Saturday, I can promise. We want to and need to win this game.
What are you expecting for the game?
I’m expecting a very hard-fought game. We have to be wide awake and switch the play quickly when we are in possession. I am very optimistic that the three points will stay in Augsburg.
