An exciting 2017 lies behind FCA. Twelve months with many highs and a few lows as well as several records set. As the year draws to a close, we take a look back at what’s happened. Today we look back at the events of March.
Kicking off the month of March, second-placed RB Leipzig were the guests in Augsburg. FCA fought valiantly against Die Roten Bullen and earned a point with a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Konstantinos Stafylidis and Martin Hinteregger. At the back, 17-year-old Kevin Danso immediately impressed upon making his Bundesliga debut and, in doing so, became the youngest player to make the Augsburg starting XI.
However, the edge over the bottom teams in the table shrank. After a big loss to Schalke (3-0) and a draw with Freiburg (1-1), the gap to the relegation zone dwindled to just two points. A relegation battle, which would last until the final matchday, loomed.
To increase unity ahead of the season’s end, the team called upon it’s motto “Augsburg hält zusammen” – Augsburg sticks together – for the final sprint. The team, club staff and fans all banded together to achieve the goal of remaining in the top flight.
