FC Augsburg are currently in a difficult situation. Following Saturday’s defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf to start the Rückrunde, FCA travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach and face another team in form. However, FCA defensive midfielder Rani Khedira knows that a strong team performance could help secure valuable away points in Mönchengladbach.
Rani Khedira had to watch Saturday’s defeat to Düsseldorf from the stands. The defensive midfielder was suspended for the match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolfsburg. It wasn’t an easy situation for him to take. “Of course it is annoying that I was suspended for the Fortuna match. However, I have served the yellow card suspension and will hopefully feature in all of the remaining sixteen fixtures of the season.” Khedira was also full of praise for his Augsburg teammates: “Although we conceded twice, we only allowed Fortuna to create three clear chances to score. Unfortunately, Düsseldorf took their chances very well. Despite this, I definitely saw that we are making progress.”
Away trip to Mönchengladbach
FCA are back in action this Saturday away against Borussia Mönchengladbach (15:30 CET). Augsburg will need to deliver a strong collective performance against the in form Foals. Khedira understands this: “Gladbach are on a good run and are tactically well structured. They like to use fast attacking players who are also technically gifted on the ball. However, strong mentality can also decide football matches. If we take our chances and give a strong performance, we can definitely take something from the match.”
