While several FCA players are already regaining their strength for next season on their holidays, others are still in action with their national teams. Marwin Hitz and Konstantinos Stafylidis both featured for Switzerland and Greece respectively on Friday, 9th June in World Cup qualification.
Switzerland took on the Faroe Islands in Torshavn and came away with a 2-0 victory that never really looked in doubt. Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and Stoke’s Xherdan Shaqiri netted for the Swiss. The result means Switzerland remain on top in group B with 18 points, with Portugal their closest chasers on 15. FCA goalkeeper Marwin Hitz did not feature as Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer stood between the posts.
Konstantinos Stafylidis will have to live with just a point after Greece drew 0-0 with Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica. Nevertheless it was a valuable point for the Greeks, who remain second in group H. The FCA defender featured for the entire 90 minutes.
