Felix Götze was the hero when Augsburg drew with FC Bayern Munich last Tuesday. With his first Bundesliga goal, the German secured a point for the away side just minutes before the end of the match. He is now focusing on the next game against SC Freiburg on Sunday 30th September (18:00 CEST).
Felix Götze was beaming at the press conference ahead of the match-up against SC Freiburg. On the topic of the Bayern game, the central defender said, “Of course it was something really special for me and I’m so happy to have scored my first goal for Augsburg in such an important match. I didn’t get a lot of sleep the night before the match, but now I can focus clearly on Freiburg. It’s back to normal in training, although of course there’s a very good feeling in the air.”
Augsburg head coach, Manuel Baum considers the upcoming opponents as equals, “I expect that this will be an even match. Freiburg have a great mentality and play with heart, which originates from the head coach, Christian Streich. Their style of play, like ours, focuses on strength in tackling and lots of running. That’s why I believe that the team with the best stamina will win on Sunday.”
Manuel Baum sees an opportunity for Felix Götze to get a place in the starting XI, “Felix, despite his young age, is incredibly calm on the ball and commanding on the pitch. He could easily play from the start.” Götze himself wants to show his abilities in training and gain as much time on the pitch as possible. “In the end, of course, it’s the coach’s decision, but I will always give 100 percent.”
