Less than a week before the season officially kicks off in the DFB-Pokal against SC Verl (Saturday, 10 August, 15:30 CEST), FC Augsburg have clinched another signature: goalkeeper Tomáš Koubek joins the club from French Ligue 1 side FC Stade Rennes for an undisclosed fee.
The Czech international has signed a five-year contract until June 2024. “I’m really excited for this new challenge in the Bundesliga with Augsburg! I’m very grateful for the club and the management for giving me this opportunity to show what I can do in a top league. I want to repay that faith with good performances,” the 26-year old told after signing.
“In Tomáš Koubek, we have acquired an experienced international and a very good goalkeeper. We’re delighted we could complete this transfer. Tomáš has already shown his quality in the national team and Europa League, as well as in Ligue 1. We’re absolutely convinced that he suits and will strengthen our team,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter.
Koubek has featured nine times for the Czech Republic national team, as well as playing for all youth teams since U18s. Last season he was part of a Stade Rennes side that sensationally beat PSG in the Coupe de France final. He has played 27 times in the Europa league for the French club, as well as former teams FC Slovan Liberec and Sparta Prague.
