“Leipzig absolutely deserved to win,” summarised FCA head coach Manuel Baum after the Friday night’s game. Read on for all the reaction to the game.
Marwin Hitz: “We were a step behind them too often today and deserved to lose. We prepared a lot for this game, but we clearly came up too short.”
Rani Khedira: “Leipzig made use of two set-pieces to score their goals, and they caught us on the break a few times. We had to defend the first goal much better though. We didn’t perform really poorly tonight, but Leipzig were clearly the better side.”
Martin Hinteregger: “We wanted to get some points today but we weren’t clinical enough when we did create some chances. It’s a shame, but it was deserved.
Daniel Baier: “We were lacking what we did well last week. It wasn’t our best performance tonight and the loss was deserved as a result. It felt like we were weren’t all on the same page, but we can’t let such a game define us and we’ll move on.”
Manuel Baum: “Leipzig absolutely deserved to win. You could really tell that we were playing against one of the best teams in Germany. We didn’t have our best day today and didn’t play well enough in all phases of the game. So the loss was the right result.”
Ralph Hasenhüttl: “We were tactically disciplined and have kept two clean sheets in a row now. That isn’t easy to do against a strong team like Augsburg, and we played very well in that phase of the game. We could have killed the game off much earlier, but I’m still very happy with how we played tonight.”
