After the unfortunate defeat to RB Leipzig in the DFB Pokal, FC Augsburg will now be fully focused on the Bundesliga again. FC Augsburg will invite TSG Hoffenheim to the WWK Arena on Sunday 7th April (15:30 CEST). The game before the winter break ended in a 2-1 defeat but there were plenty of positives to take from the game.
The quarter-final may still be affecting the player’s bodies but it is not on their minds anymore. Manuel Baum and his team have moved on from this game and are now fully focused on the upcoming home game against TSG Hoffenheim. Nevertheless, Baum has picked out the positives from the defeat on Thursday evening: “Getting knocked out and a bad performance are two very different things. We are only disappointed with the result. The atmosphere was fantastic, the choreography from the fans was amazing and the performance from the team was class. We wanted to get to the semi-finals but that did not happen. Now we are fully focused on the Bundesliga.” Konstantinos Stafylidis is looking forward too: “Of course getting knocked out the cup was difficult for the team. We saw a few upset faces the next day, but now we are raring to go for the game on Sunday.”
Aim: Prevent Hoffenheim from using their strengths
Aggressive players, very strong in the tackle and lots of quality upfront are the reasons why Hoffenheim are only one point off the Europa League spots. Hoffenheim have also had extra rest as they did not play midweek in the cup. However, Manuel Baum doesn’t want to go into the game as the underdog: “A good training week doesn’t automatically mean a good game on the weekend. Likewise, playing midweek does not mean that the team will play badly on the weekend. We want to defend well as a team to negate their strengths on the pitch.” There is also only one plan in mind for Konstantinos Stafylidis:” Hoffenheim are a good team but we want to win. We will give everything for the win!”
