“We’re happy to be one step further”

First Team 19.08.2018, 21:00
A sturdy performance sees FC Augsburg proceed to round two of the DFB-Pokal. FCA were on top for the majority of the game against TSV Steinbach, however, there was a phase when the Regionalliga side came close to taking the lead. “In the end we are just happy to be in the next round,” summed up head coach Manuel Baum. fcaugsburg.de gives you the post-game reactions: Marco Richter: “I’m very happy to have scored in my first DFB-Pokal game. I want to improve week on week so I can pay back the faith the coach has showed in me. All that counts is that we’re in the next round; there was a tough period of the game where things were looking like they could go the other way.” André Hahn: “It was clear that Steinbach can play good football and they were physically strong. But, we did what we had to do and all that matters is that we’ve progressed. In the next round we want to play even better.” Manuel Baum: “Steinbach deserve a lot of credit for the way they played, they made life very tough for us. There was also a great cup atmosphere in the stadium. We failed to capitalise on our lead. Steinbach were strong at the back and managed to get themselves back into the game in the second half. I’m happy that our returnee André Hahn got himself a goal. At the end of the day we’re just glad to be in the next round.” Matthias Mink (Steinbach): “We’re very proud of the way we played, particularly in the second half. What we did on the pitch was extraordinary. We showed that we can turn a game. But, as the underdogs, when you get so many chances you have to put them away. We were very happy with the support from the fans, but just disappointed to have missed out on the win by such a small margin.”
