FC Augsburg were unable to hold out against Eintracht Frankfurt having held the lead for the majority of the match. Manuel Baum’s side were eventually defeated 3-1 by the hosts. Here is all the post-match reaction. Marwin Hitz: “We were in front for a long time but unfortunately we weren’t able to withstand the pressure from Frankfurt in the end. You have to say that we should have had a penalty before though. Had we got that, we definitely would have taken something away. Now we want to get three points again in our home game against HSV.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “It was a really tough game because we had a lot of players with injuries on the pitch. We did really well in the first half but our strength began to subside in the second half and sadly we weren’t able to hold on.” Philipp Max: “The early goal meant it was in our hands and when you go in front in a game like this, you need to make sure you leave with something. When you look at how unlucky the goals we conceded were, it’s really disappointing. We gave it everything but didn’t get our reward for it, so we are obviously disappointed but we will be better against HSV.” Manuel Baum: “We took our foot off the gas too much after taking the lead in the first half. We found it difficult to win challenges after the break as many of our players were on their last legs. Having made two substitutions, three players then signaled that they needed to come off but we carried on plugging away. Frankfurt put us under a lot of pressure and made us retreat deep into our half. In the end we were not able to withstand that pressure.” Nico Kovac: “We were a bit disjointed in the first half and couldn’t find any stability. We were much better at that in the second half and we took control of things. We created a lot of chances so I think we deserved the win.”
