South Korea punch their ticket for the World Cup in Russia

First Team 06.09.2017, 17:03
Despite only managing a 0-0 draw with Uzbekistan, FCA’s Ja-Cheol Koo and South Korea have qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Elsewhere, two FCA youngsters who recently made their debuts both started for the first time.  Uzbekistan 0-0 South Korea On Tuesday evening, the last games in both Asian World Cup qualifying groups were played out. South Korea’s Ja-Cheol Koo was substituted on in the 44th minute in his country’s goalless draw with Uzbekistan in Tashkent. Syria’s 2-2 draw with already qualified Iran was the game that had the most riding on it.  punched Shin Tae-Yong’s team’s ticket to Russia. Thanks to his result, South Korea cannot be caught in second place, meaning Syria will play a playoff with Australia and Shin Tae-Yong’s team’s ticket to the World Cup in Russia has been punched. Austria 1-1 Georgia After narrowly losing to Wales, the only way that Austria could qualify to the World Cup was to win all three of their remaining games. However, after a disappointing 1-1 draw to Georgia in Vienna, Austria’s hopes for qualification have been dashed. A positive note from an FCA perspective was the debut of Kevin Danso. The 18-year-old followed up his debut against Wales on Saturday with his first appearance in Austria’s starting eleven. Danso and his FCA teammate Martin Hinteregger played the whole game, while Michael Gregoritsch didn’t come on. Iceland 2-0 Ukraine Group I’s first and second placed teams faced off on Tuesday as Iceland and Ukraine met in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson proved to be the difference by scoring a brace for the home side. Alfred Finnbogason sat on the bench for the majority of the game, although he was eventually subbed on in the 92nd minute. The win took Iceland up to second in Group I, and also means that they have the same amount of points as leaders Croatia (16). It’s all to play for in the last two games for FCA’s Icelander. Argentina 1-1 Venezuela Venezuela and Sergio Cordova also put in a very good performance yesterday. The Venezuelans managed to give football giants Argentina a very good game, especially seeing as the home side have not yet qualified. Cordova started for Venezuela, managing to get an assist with a beautiful pass, before he was subbed off just before the game ended. Despite getting points in their last two games, Venezuela remain in last place in their group and cannot qualify.
