October: Finnbogason reaches World Cup

First Team 30.12.2017, 14:21
FCA's exceptional 2017 has come to a close. The twelve month have had serious highs, some lows and records broken. Today, we're taking a lookback at FCA's October. October started with an international break in which Iceland international Alfred Finnbogason qualified for the World Cup with his country. It's the first time Iceland has reached a World Cup finals. In the Bundesliga, FCA made tracks for Hoffenheim and, despite trailing on two occasions, FCA scored in the dying minutes to take a point back home with them in a 2-2 draw. The draw was unfortunately followed by a setback. In their home tie with newly promoted Hannover 96, FCA conceded two late goals which meant Michael Gregoritsch's early strike counted for nothing in a 2-1 defeat.

Crucial away win in Bremen

However, in their next game, the team showed that they were capable of moving on from setbacks. In Bremen, FCA romped home with a 3-0 win and got their first victory in four games. The goals came from Alfred Finnbogason and a Michael Gregoritsch brace. In his last three games, the Austrian had scored on four occasions. The U23s also had success in October. Due to popular demand, their clash with TSV 1860 Munich was played in the WWK Arena. Augsburg's reserves celebrated a 3-2 over the table toppers and promotion favourites in front of a crowd of 21,219 - a record high for a game in the Regionalliga Bayern.
