Take confidence to Gladbach

First Team 04.05.2017, 13:30
Augsburg go into Saturday's game with Borussia Mönchengladbach (15:30 CEST) on the back of a convincing 4-0 home win over Hamburg. Despite last Sunday's resounding victory, Manuel Baum is aware that, "Gladbach are a totally different opponent to Hamburg because they set-up very differently." Augsburg's ever improving Frenchman Jonathan Schmid also knows that Gladbach can't be compared to Hamburg. However, he is certain that, "If we put in that sort of performance then we can beat anyone." Even if the attacker hasn't been totally content with all of his performances so far this season, ‘Johnny' is looking forward to the coming weeks: "Now the really important games are coming and it'll be fun. We need to keep going and everyone needs to run and fight for each other." The mood in the whole team is noticeably more positive because everyone grew in confidence after the home win against Hamburg. "Everyone is training with a bigger smile than before," said head coach Baum. That is important and the team shouldn't let up now. Sporting director Stefan Reuter hit the nail on the head saying, "We can't afford to give an inch." There hasn't been much change to Manuel Baum's squad. He will continue to be without Ja-Cheol Koo, Jan Moravek and Marco Schuster who are all long-term injury absentees. Seven of his players will go into Saturday's game one yellow card away from a suspension (Baier, Janker, Verhaegh, Gouweleeuw, Ji, Max and Hitz). "If you get a yellow card there's nothing you can do about it. We're not going to change how we go in for challenges. We can't be doing that in a relegation fight." The team will be able to count on huge support in Mönchengladbach, as 1,400 Augsburg fans will be making the trip north. In addition, all of the fans travelling to the game will be given a red, green or white Augsburg top to wear at the match in order to add to the atmosphere.
