FC Augsburg and newly promoted Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin have reached an agreement regarding the permanent transfer of defender Marvin Friedrich. The 23 year-old, who joined the Berlin club on loan from the Fuggerstädter in January 2018, has now left Augsburg on a permanent basis. The two clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee for the transfer. “I am very grateful to everyone in the club hierarchy who made this transfer possible. I’m delighted to be playing for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga,” said Friedrich. The defender didn’t miss a single minute of the 2018/19 Bundesliga 2 season as Union secured their first ever Bundesliga promotion. “Marvin Friedrich made it clear to us that he wanted to have the opportunity to stay in Berlin. Consequently, we are pleased we managed to find a solution which satisfied all parties involved,” said FC Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter. “We wish Marvin all the best for the future.” Marvin will return to the WWK ARENA on the second matchday of the new season. The defender and his Union Berlin teammates will take on FC Augsburg in their first ever away match in the top flight on the weekend of 23rd-26th August. FCA will open the new season a week earlier with a trip to Borussia Dortmund.
