Manuel Baum: “We deserved the point”

First Team 27.01.2018, 23:38
Against the most in-form team in the entire league, FC Augsburg managed to come away with a hard fought point. “We had perhaps the hardest opponents of this matchday across the league, because Cologne really do have the wind in their sails at the moment,” said Manuel Baum after the game. Read on for all the reaction to the game. Marwin Hitz: “We found it hard to get into the game, because Cologne are really riding a wave of form at the moment after three wins in a row. We stayed positive after going behind, because we knew that it would only take one moment to get us back into it. Everyone was trying everything we could, but we weren’t quite accurate enough in the build up and we were often a step too late. We wanted all three points from this game, but we did all we could.” Marcel Heller: “It’s okay that we managed to get a point after falling behind. When you get a point away from home, that’s a decent result. We made it difficult, but we managed to pull it back in the second half. We have to play better on the break.” Caiuby: “We took a while to get into the game. We were a lot better in the second half, and we always knew we had it in us to get a point from the game. After a tough game like that, a draw is a good result.” Daniel Baier: “We’ll have to learn from this game, because we were a step behind too often today. But we’re happy to have come back and earned a point.” Manuel Baum: “We had perhaps the hardest opponents of this matchday across the league, because Cologne really do have the wind in their sails at the moment. We did well defensively, but we made too many simple errors in attack today. We created a few good chances after the break, did everything we could, and were rewarded with a point. We have a lot to work on, however. You have to give credit to Cologne too, because they played extremely well.” Stefan Ruthenbeck: “The team gave their all today and had great support from the fans. Augsburg defended well, but we still had a few chances. Everything seemed to be going well as the second half got underway, but then Augsburg stepped things up a gear and we were lucky a few times to not concede. The equaliser was deserved, but we didn’t let our heads drop and tried to find a winner. I thought we came closer than they did, but the point is a point won for us, not a point lost.”
