Bundesliga survival had been sealed and FCA had some breathing space for their final two matches of the season. Unfortunately, Augsburg were unable to pick up any more points from these final fixtures. FCA fell to a narrow 2-1 home defeat against FC Schalke 04 before losing 2-0 away in Freiburg. FCA finished the Bundesliga season in 12th place with 41 points. Following the final match in Freiburg, there were reasons to celebrate despite the result on the pitch. Academy talent become the youngest ever player to play for Augsburg in the Bundesliga. At 17 years and 107 days old, Asta also became the sixth youngest player to ever play in the Bundesliga. Hitz and Gelios leave the club – Hahn and Schieber arrive The season had barely ended before FCA started making preparations for the 2018/19 season. FCA made two attacking transfers, signing Julian Schieber from Hertha BSC alongside André Hahn, who returned to the club from Hamburger SV. Michael Wimmer also joined the club as an assistant coach. After five years at the club, Marvin Hitz left FCA in search of a new challenge and joined Borussia Dortmund. Ioannis Gelios also left the club to join FC Hansa Rostock after spending seventeen years in Augsburg.
