May: FCA secure Bundesliga status in Hoffenheim

First Team 24.12.2017, 13:05
An exciting 2017 lies behind FCA. Twelve months with many highs and a few lows as well as several records set. As the year draws to a close, we take a look back at what’s happened. Today we look back at the events of May. FCA went into the final three matches of the season with a two-point cushion over 16th place. It was in their hands as to whether or not they would stay up, with Gladbach, Dortmund and Hoffenheim awaiting the Swabians in a tough fixture list to conclude the 2016/17 campaign. Augsburg looked as though they were going to leave Mönchengladbach with a narrow victory, but former FCA man André Hahn snatched it away from Baum’s side right at the death as they had to settle for just a point. However the team did not let this set them back and earned an impressive 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Dortmund to the surprise of most. 0-0 at TSG enough for survival FCA needed just one point in their final game of the season away at high-flyers Hoffenheim to guarantee their safety. A strong defensive performance helped the Fuggerstädter grind out a 0-0- draw, sparking celebrations as the club knew they could begin planning for yet another year of Bundesliga football.
