No points for South Korea against Mexico

First Team 23.06.2018, 19:36
South Korea fell to another narrow defeat at the World Cup in their second group game against Mexico. FCA’s Ja-Cheol Koo watched from the bench as his country lost 2-1 As they had done against Germany, Mexico started the game with pace and purpose, and caused South Korea problems early on. The Asian side looked to get forward on the counter, but struggled to carve out any clear cut chances. The opener came from the penalty spot, as Carlos Vela tucked away from 12 yards after a handball from Jang. Mexico grew in confidence, and were presented many opportunities to increase their lead as South Korea began to make mistakes, but the South American side were unable to increase their lead before the break. Mexico continued to be in the ascendancy after the break, and goalkeeper Cho had to be alert to keep his side in the game with a series of impressive saves. He was beaten again though in the 66th minute, when former Leverkusen player Chicharito slotted home to double the lead. Heung-Min Son’s late wonder strike reduced the arrears, but was ultimately not enough.
