January: FCA begin second half of the season with home win over HSV

First Team 24.12.2018, 15:21
As 2018 draws to a close, we look back on some memorable FC Augsburg moments throughout the year. Today in our end of year review: January. FCA enjoyed a successful first half to the 2017/18 season, securing 24 points from their opening 17 matches. The team were nine points clear of the relegation play-off spot and went in search of staying clear of the drop. To maintain this gap, the team prepared for the second half of the season with a winter training camp in Tenerife. There were only a few changes to the squad over the international break. Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker went out on loan to Kaiserslautern while Dong-Won Ji spent the second half of the season at Darmstadt. Erik Thommy also left the club to join VfB Stuttgart. FC Augsburg move into a new administrative office Ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the start of the second half of the season was brought forward to mid January. FCA hosted Hamburger SV on matchday 18 and secured a 1-0 home victory. This was followed by two away trips to Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln. FCA fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Foals but were able to take a point back to Augsburg following a 1-1 draw against bottom side Köln. At the end of January, following months of building work, FCA moved their administrative department from their Donauwörther Straße office in northern Augsburg to the WWK ARENA. Alongside the new office, a fan shop and fan pub were opened which allows FCA fans to watch away matches on the big screen.
