Ingolstadt match reaction

First Team 05.04.2017, 10:28
The Augsburg onslaught came too late tonight as they lost 3-2 to Augsburg, having trailed 3-0 at one stage in the second half. Here is the reaction of some of the players and the managers to the match. Paul Verhaegh: "We didn't give up, even at the end, but it was too late for us. We had chances in the last ten minutes to equalise, but we weren't able to in the end. On the whole, we weren't calm enough and made too many mistakes. We didn't play well enough in the first half. We need to remain calm, however, and think positively about the coming games. We know that we're in a difficult position, but we need to work hard and stay together to get out of it." Martin Hinteregger: "Ingolstadt made it difficult for us from the start and we didn't defend well enough. We didn't win the decisive battles and found our way in the match too late. We can all read the table and we know how it looks. We need to keep our heads up and we have the opportunity to make amends in a few days in Berlin." Marwin Hitz: "The first goal simply can't happen. I take responsibility fort hat. I'm sorry that the team went behind with this goal. No one escapes criticism with us and we know that we're making mistakes at the minute which we need to prevent. After going 3-0 down you could see the positive reaction we showed when we pulled the first goal back. From then on we were in the game and came back strongly. We believe in ourselves and we'll get through this together." Halil Altintop: "We're making too many mistakes which are leading to goals. At the other end, we need to look to score more. However, it's in our own hands. We'll get out of this and stick together." Manuel Baum: "I thought be started the game well, without really threatening their goal. Then we made individual mistakes which contributed to the goals we conceded. We only have ourselves to blame. We lost our rhythm after the first two goals, but it's good that we came back after going 3-0 down and tried to equalise right up until the end. We now need to give everything to get a result in Berlin on Sunday." Maik Walpurgis: "We're very pleased with the three points. We were very tidy for 75 minutes and kept finding answers and rewarded ourselves with the goals. Then we gave away a needless penalty and made it a nervy finish fo ourselves. On the whole, however, this was a well-deserved victory for my team."
