Heller: "We want to give it our all once again"

First Team 07.12.2017, 13:33
Marcel Heller came to Augsburg from Darmstadt in the summer and since his move, he has featured in almost every competitive match for FCA. The winger spoke to us about the team’s great start to the season, the reasons for it and the upcoming home game against Hertha BSC (Sunday 10th December, KO 18:00 CET). Marcel Heller has played in 13 out of 14 Bundesliga games this season, starting nine of them. The attacker also played during the DFB-Pokal defeat to Magdeburg (0-1). The new signing has not taken long to settle in on the right wing and has helped FCA to 22 points and seventh in the table after 14 games. “We are obviously happy that we are in a really good position at the moment,” Marcel Heller said. “We want to carry on building on our performances.” However, the 31-year-old is wary of taking his foot off the gas despite his team’s comfortable buffer above the lower-placed teams in the division. “We aren’t going to sit back and relax. As soon as you do that, it can quickly go pear-shaped.” Heller thinks that the team’s togetherness is a big factor in their success. “We are carrying out the game plans that the boss gives us to the letter,” the attacker said.

Heller: "It is good to switch off sometimes"

The fact that the number 7 has been on the bench recently just spurs him on even more. “If the coach decides on that, you have to put up with it,” Heller said sportingly. “I’m continuing to give my all and prove myself in training,” he explained, putting the team’s success ahead of his personal gain. After the 3-1 win in Mainz, the team had two days off. “It is good to switch off sometimes, especially before the midweek games next week. Now we want to give it our all once again,” Marcel Heller emphasised. On the first of three games before the winter break, Hertha BSC are the visitors to the WWK ARENA. “Hertha have a lot of great individual players and are a great team who are hard to play against,” the winger warned. Heller will continue striving for his first FCA goal in the Hertha game – he still hasn’t managed to bag a goal in a red, green and white shirt.
