“We showed unbelievable effort for the whole 90 minutes”

First Team 16.09.2017, 20:29
“We showed a lot of character today, and we’re obviously very happy to have come away with three very important points,” said a very satisfied Manuel Baum after his team’s 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Read all the reaction to the game here. Philipp Max: “We worked really hard in the preseason to gel as a team, and that really showed today. Tactically, we were very well prepared too. You could see that we were hungry to win the game, and we showed unbelievable effort for the whole 90 minutes. With my free kick I wanted to just whip it into a dangerous area, so the fact it went in was a pleasant surprise.” Caiuby: “After we scored the opener, we tried to really push on the counter attack and do everything in our power to defend all three points. The coach told me to shoot from everywhere. It was good advice! To have seven points at this stage of the season is great.” Marcel Heller: “We knew heading into the game that it would be a tough battle. It was always going to be a case of putting everything into every challenge to come away with the three points. The first half went really well, and in the second we held back a bit, but we defended well as a team. We put everything on the line for this team, and we showed that again today.” Manuel Baum: “Credit to Frankfurt, who played a good game, even after we deservedly took the lead in first half. In the second half we came out second best too often in a lot of challenges, so I wasn’t happy with that. But we showed a lot of character today, and we’re obviously very happy to have come away with three very important points.” Niko Kovac: “Credit must go to Augsburg as well, who played extremely well. They were compact in the middle of the pitch in the first half, leaving us no space to operate. We just couldn’t adapt to it unfortunately and play with more width. Augsburg’s opener was therefore totally deserved. We managed to muster a bit of a fight back, but that still wasn’t enough to turn the game away around. FCA simply got the better of us today.”
