Gouweleeuw: "I feel we're ready"

First Team 10.01.2018, 18:29
This Wednesday, FC Augsburg returned to the training pitch after two days of rest. Centre-back Jeffrey Gouweleeuw spoke ahead of the clash with Hamburger SV on Sunday 13th January about Augsburg’s goals for the Rückrunde. FCA spent six days over the winter break in Tenerife preparing for the second half of the Bundesliga season. “It was a very intense training camp. We trained well,” said a positive Jeffrey Gouweleeuw. On Saturday, HSV stand in Augsburg's way. “Matches are always completely different to training”, confessed the defender but added: “I still feel we’re ready.” On the first matchday, the game ended 1-0 to HSV but, this time around, FCA are determined to keep the points in Augsburg. "I think we have more quality than Hamburg," claimed Jeffrey Gouweleeuw. "We were the better team in the last match up but we just couldn't score." The Dutchman is now hopeful to right those wrongs by getting three points on the board to spring FCA's Rückrunde into action,

Gouweleeuw: 100% for 17 games

The 26-year-old doesn’t have a clear goal for the remainder of the season which he’s played every minute of so far. “It’s tough to say what we can still achieve this season.” For Jeffrey, the main goal continues to be survival: “If we keep our confidence high on and off the pitch, we may be able to achieve even more.” For that to happen, the team needs to get off to a successful start against HSV.
