FCA look to end their dry spell at home against Wolfsburg

First Team 23.11.2017, 18:04
On Saturday 25th November, the in-form VfL Wolfsburg will visit the WWK ARENA. While various FCA players have a history with the Wolves, it’s also the first time that Paul Verhaegh will be coming back to his old stomping ground. FCA have five more games left to play in 2017. The goal is to win as many points as possible before the winter break. “In every game we have the chance to come away with something,” emphasised Manuel Baum. The squad as a whole is in very good shape going into the Wolfsburg game. Every player is available for selection. It’s a big boost for a side that is looking for its first home win in four games. “We’re in a bit of a dry spell at the moment when it comes to winning at home,” said Baum. With a win, FCA can increase the gap between themselves and the Wolves to five while also distancing themselves from the relegation positions. Wolfsburg still undefeated under Martin Schmidt It’s easier said than done, however. Wolfsburg are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment, and have not lost since Martin Schmidt took over as head coach. After seven straight draws, the men in Green and White finally got their first victory against SC Freiburg. “They’re a good side,” warned Manuel Baum, “with a lot of quality.” In order to make their lives as difficult as possible, FCA’s head coach wants his team to “aggressively press them off the ball and get on the board early.” This game has a bit more meaning for a few players. Marwin Hitz, Daniel Baier, Ja-Cheol Koo and Caiuby all once wore the Wolfsburg shirt in the past. The Brazilian, who has appeared in all of FCA’s games in this campaign, is really enjoying his football at the moment. “Everyone is focused, and we all have each other’s backs,” said Caiuby. “It’s a lot of fun to play for this team.” On the other side of the pitch, the game will also be Paul Verhaegh’s first visit to the WWK ARENA since he left in the summer. The ex-captain decided to pursue a new challenge and chose VfL Wolfsburg to carry that out. There is no time for niceties on the pitch with his old teammates though. “He’ll definitely get a robust welcome from me on the weekend,” said Caiuby cheekily with a wide smile.
