Dortmund match reaction

First Team 13.05.2017, 11:02
FC Augsburg picked up a vital point in the relegation battle with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund and a very strong performance. We bring you all the post-match reaction from players and coaches right here. Alfred Finnbogason: "We had a great plan and created a lot of chances. We didn't get into them as much in the second half and we were forced to allow them to have more possession. It was good for us that we took the lead but Dortmund then started to put more and more pressure on us, so we couldn't get the victory in the end. A point is worth a lot at the end of the day." Andreas Luthe: "We are all feeling very optimistic after this match. When a team plays like we did today, then you deserve to stay in the league. We've given ourselves the best chance of staying up and now we want to make sure we are rewarded for our efforts. You could see throughout the entire 90 minutes that we are united and I'm incredibly proud." Paul Verhaegh: "We had several opportunities in the first half, whereas the second half was dominated more by tackles and physicality. Of course we had hoped for better results in the other fixtures but now it is still open going into the final day of the season. But huge credit to the boys for the way they performed today." Daniel Baier: "It was a strange situation, finishing the game and then watching the end of the Wolfsburg match in the changing room. Unfortunately we didn't achieve our main objective which was to get three points. We then had to hope that other results would go our way but neither Schalke nor Mönchengladbach could do us a favour. I'm not going to start predicting things. We want to at least pick up a point in Hoffenheim and then we know we will be safe." Manuel Baum: "We knew that BVB can be very powerful and are very versatile. We dealt with that really well for 40 minutes but it was a very draining match and as a result, we lost our way a bit after the break and failed to take advantage of our opportunities on the counter. However it was a strong performance from the team overall." Thomas Tuchel: "We had a lot of possession and a high pass completion rate. We played well and were excellent in certain periods but Augsburg made it very difficult for us. It was tough to create chances or find any space. That meant we didn't get many opportunities but we could have won it. It was hard work today."
