FCA into DFB Cup second round

FC Augsburg have safely negotiated their way into the second round of the DFB Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over FV Regensburg. Ja-cheol Koo and Raul Bobadilla got the goals for FCA in an at times fiery encounter. The FCA fans offered fantastic support in Pfullendorf, turning up in all white to show their backing for the Augsburg boys. The almost 1,000-strong travelling faithful were already making themselves heard during the warm-up, but the game itself took some times to reach temperature. The first positive attacking moments in the game came from the fifth-tier hosts, with every touch being cheered loudly by the home supporters. It took an offensive Augsburg side ten minutes to seize control of the game and put pressure on the hosts, in what was new head coach Dirk Schuster's first competitive match. Despite that, it didn't translate into too many chances for FCA. Raul Bobadilla's free kick clipped the crossbar in the seventh minute, Ja-cheol Koo arrived a second too late to finish Dominik Kohr's great build-up play soon after, Caiuby's lob was tipped over by Kevin Kraus and Alfred Finnbogason's effort was parried wide. It took a while, but the breakthrough finally arrived in the 29th minutes. Kostas Stafylidis delivered a ball into the box, Caiuby flicked it on and Koo was alive to react and guide the ball into the back of the net. Less than ten minutes later, FCA saw a triple chance kept out by some sensational defending from the opposition, including two goal-line clearances. FV Ravensburg refused to lay down, however, and continued to put up a resistance to Augsburg's pressure. At the other end, Robert Henning worked his way into the box before finally being halted and two minutes later Marwin Hitz was called into action, punching away from a corner. The favourites continued to establish their dominance in the second half, but struggled to find a second goal. A Caiuby strike on the hour mark looked destined for goal, but the Ravensburg keeper made a vital save to tip the ball onto the crossbar. The decisive goal game with 20 minutes to go: Dominik Kohr with a brilliant piece of build-up play, which Raul Bobadilla finished expertly into the bottom corner. With the cushion of an extra goal, FCA saw out the win comfortably to book their spot in the second round of the DFB Cup.
