Caiuby: "Everyone puts the team before themselves"

First Team 05.10.2017, 17:03
After earning eleven points from seven games, FC Augsburg have made a great start to the new Bundesliga season. Caiuby has been a big reason for that. The Brazilian has appeared in every game and has scored two goals. He also managed to do something he’s never done before. After a cross from Philipp Max was whipped into the six-yard box in the game against Dortmund on Saturday, the 29-year-old Brazilian leapt up at the back post and headed it back across goal and into the back of the net. It was his first headed goal in the German top flight. “I’ve had chances to score a header in the past, but I’ve always come just short,” said Caiuby. He didn’t forget to thank the man who assisted him though, as he called Philipp Max’s ball “the perfect cross.” Caiuby has a good idea as to why the season has started so well for FCA: hard work. “Everyone puts the team before themselves. We’re all there for each other, and that comes as a bit of a surprise to other teams.” The high intensity playing style that FCA adopt might be tiring, “but it’s a lot of fun,” explains Caiuby. “When we win and get back into the dressing room as a team, we know it was worth it.” After an extended period out with injury, Caiuby is “fully fit” The multi-faceted attacker was out for months last season with some cartilage damage in his knee, and was only able to make a total of five appearances. Caiuby made sure to take the positives from that difficult time though: “throughout my injury, I learnt how important it is to have patience. I didn’t have that before.” It has paid off, as the South American is once again “fully fit”. FCA’s number 30 has started six games this season, and also featured as a substitute in one other game. “I want to perform well in every game and do my best to help the team,” said Caiuby. He’s doing just that at the moment.
