Baum: Important to keep feet on the ground

First Team 16.01.2018, 17:47
FCA got a 2018 off to the perfect start with their 1-0 win over Hamburger SV. Since the start of the week, preparations ahead of Saturday's trip to Gladbach are in full swing. Head coach Manuel Baum spoke after FCA's Tuesday's training session on the following... ... the HSV match: "First of all, we wanted to stay solid defensively against HSV. We knew Hamburg are effective at pressing and tough to play against. All in all, I'm very proud of the lads for managing the game as well as they did. A win to start the Rückrunde has done us the world of good. We can build upon it and go into the next match full of confidence." ... raised expectations: "When you put in good performances and that gets reflected in the table, the demands obviously rise too. However, we have an environment at this football club which centres on keeping grounded and working hard. Things can spiral either way in a short space of time." ... the weekend's trip to Gladbach: "I think we showed in the first half of the season that we can mix it with the big boys of this league. The key lesson we can take from the season so far is that, away from home, we need to be a bit more courageous and have confidence in ourselves. I think the lads are starting to get that confidence now." ... Alfred Finnbogason's return: "Alfred will take part in first team training once again on Wednesday. Potentially, he could start against Gladbach but, if he isn't 100% ready, we won't take any unnecessary risks. Sergio Cordova did well against Hamburg." ... Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker's loan to Kaiserlautern: "Jan-Ingwer has been working hard here for the past two years. Physically, he's in a great place. Now it's about him getting game time. In Kaiserlautern, he has the chance to do that. We value him as a player and a person and he was a key component in the first half of our season."
