Baum: "Bremen deserve their win"

First Team 17.03.2018, 22:49
It was a first 45 to forget. "The way we played in the first half was as if we had already given up," said a disgruntled Manuel Baum after Saturday’s 3-1 home loss to Werder Bremen. We gathered the thoughts from the mixed zone. Michael Gregoritsch: "The first half was very bad from us – there’s no beating around the bush. We went into the second half with more commitment, got a goal back and could even have levelled the scores, but ultimately we fell short. We now have the international break and can analyse the game." Martin Hinteregger: "Bremen started the game really well. We were all over the place in the first half. After we got our goal, we were right back in it, but their third goal killed the game." Philipp Max: "We knew what to expect, but we just have any response against a very versatile Bremen team. Our first-half performance was very poor. We came out of the break well and had some great chances, but we just didn’t have that bit of luck on our side. However, we didn’t deserve anything out of today’s game." Marwin Hitz: "We only have 35 points on the board – that’s nothing to get excited about yet. We need more to achieve our goals. We ought to have played with more patience after getting a goal back, but we were too chaotic in our search for an equaliser and got caught on the counter." Rani Khedira: A lot of things went wrong today. We couldn’t deal with Bremen at all because we were too spread out as a team. We adjusted at half time and improved. We had chances to equalise, but Werder’s third was the killer blow. My first Bundesliga is a small consolation – I would much rather have gotten a result." Manuel Baum: I felt like we’d already called time on the season today. The way we played in the first half was as if we had already given up. We improved after the break and even had chances to get back level, but we had no structure in the closing stages, so Bremen deserve their win." Florian Kohfeldt: I’m happy with our performance, particularly in the first half. It might have been our best half of football for weeks. Augsburg were more proactive after the break, but overall we deserved to win. We’re not in a position to rest on our laurels though; we still need more points."
