Baum: “Our reaction to conceding a goal was great to see”

First Team 04.11.2017, 21:48
“Our reaction to conceding a goal was great to see,” said Manuel Baum about his team’s spirit after their 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. Read on for all the reaction to the game. Philipp Max: “We started really slowly in the first 20 minutes or so - they were better than us. After the injury to Sven Bender, we played much better. We created some really good chances, covered a lot of ground and invested all that we could. At the end of the day, a draw was probably the correct result.” Rani Khedira: “After 90 minutes, you have to say that the draw was probably a fair result for this game. Leverkusen were the better side in the opening stages, but we grew into the game more and more as it went on. They ran out of ideas in the second half as we made it hard for them, which in turn opened up some big chances for us. We also should have had a penalty in my opinion - you can’t use your hand in that situation.” Kevin Danso: “The goal we conceded was annoying for me on two fronts, because I messed up initially, and then I had a second chance to clear the ball after I made the original mistake. I wanted to make up for my error and I’m really happy that I was able to do that by scoring a goal. However, my first job as a defender is to keep them out. All in all, we’re satisfied with a point against Leverkusen.” Michael Gregoritsch: “This was a hard earned point which now takes us to 16 on the year, which we are not dissatisfied with at all. We got a better grip on the game after the first 20 minutes, and managed to generate a few good chances, but we conceded a silly goal at the beginning of the second half. We’re all really happy that Kevin was the one to score the equaliser for us. Now we just have to show him how to celebrate properly.” Manuel Baum: “I think we put in a very solid performance against Leverkusen today. I wanted to get at least a draw before the game, so I’m happy. The goal we conceded after the break was avoidable, but the reaction from the team was great see. Kevin showed that it’s okay to make mistakes. Overall, I agree with Heiko Herrlich in that the draw was the correct result.” Heiko Herrlich: “I look at today’s result as a point won, not as two points dropped. Augsburg also have 16 points, so it’s a good result. We controlled things in the first 25 minutes, were quite fortunate to take the lead, and then Augsburg really started to play well. We were lucky in the end to not have conceded a second goal, but I think that the draw was the correct result overall.”
