Baum: “The loss is very frustrating”

First Team 07.04.2018, 21:15
FC Augsburg managed to hold FC Bayern in check for a good 30 minutes, but from then on the visitors showed their quality and punished FCA with ice-cold precision. Read on for all the reaction to the game. Marwin Hitz: “We played really well in the first half an hour and played with a high amount of urgency. The goals we then conceded were a big setback and you could see how it affected us. We tried everything to hold them out, but at the end of the day, it’s very, very hard to defend against Bayern.” Martin Hinteregger: “We started strongly, but Bayern showed very quickly that they’re in unbelievable form at the moment and are virtually unbeatable. After we took the lead, they reacted very quickly and made things hard for us. We couldn’t do much to stop them.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We started the game very well, but we couldn’t hold onto our lead for long. Bayern showed their quality in the goals they scored before the break and were the better team overall. It was disappointing, because we could have gotten something from today’s game.” Jonathan Schmid: “The first 30 minutes were great and we managed to surprise Bayern. But then their two goals came all of a sudden and we lost a bit of our energy. I’m apologise to the fans after yet another loss at home. But we’ll be looking to show in the game against Wolfsburg that we can get points away from home.” Michael Gregoritsch: “We wanted to score an early goal against Bayern, which we managed to do. We then let a few things get away from us and ended up going into half-time down a goal. We were perhaps lacking the luck you need in a few of the crucial situations, because if you want to get points against Bayern, you have to punish them for their errors and not make any yourselves.” Manuel Baum: “4-1 doesn’t really do us credit I think. In the first 25 minutes they didn’t have a single chance. Unfortunately, we then conceded two goals quickly before the break. We lost a bit of our energy. Nevertheless, we tried everything to fight back, but we conceded two goals from set pieces. It’s what we were expecting, but the loss is still obviously very frustrating.” Jupp Heynckes: “In the first half an hour, Augsburg gave us trouble with their energy and fight. We couldn’t settle down at all, but we finally did manage to find our feet towards the end of the first half. The two goals before the break were very important for the win today. We then controlled things in the second half.”
