Baum: "With a bit of luck, belief and spirit, we managed to turn things around"

First Team 16.12.2017, 22:56
What an end to FCA’s 2017. For most of the game it seemed as though they would come away with nothing, but with a brace in added time, Alfred Finnbogason earned his side a point against Freiburg. All the reaction to the game can be read here. Philipp Max: “We started off the game really well and could have gone two goals up very early on. But then we let the game slip a little bit. Even if we could have come away with more from this game, we have to accept the point and move on. It’s been an intense week and this last minute point was an unbelievable ending to it.” Alfred Finnbogason: “We played poorly today from the twentieth minute until the last three minutes. It’s the striker’s job to be in the right place at the right time and I got good service today. We were lucky to come away with a point.” Michael Gregoritsch: “When you’re down by two in the 89th minute, you have a very slim chance to get a point. We’re very happy that we managed to earn a point. It would have been a lot easier if I had managed to take my chance early in the game - I have to do better there.” Daniel Baier: “We didn’t let ourselves give up after going down by two, even if the atmosphere in the stadium was slightly unsettled. We clearly could have won the game, but in light of how the game went we have to be satisfied with a point.” Rani Khedira: “It was a wild end to the game today. After we went down by two, my mind jumped to the Schalke game, when we managed to pull ourselves back from such a deficit. Why shouldn’t we be able to come back again? We didn’t get as many points as we wanted to this week, but we performed okay.” Manuel Baum: “After starting fast when we should have been up by two, nothing really went our way after we conceded the first goal. Freiburg were very good today and made us take the game to them. However, with a bit of luck, belief and spirit, we managed to turn things around. At the end of the day, we’re proud of what we have managed to achieve in the first half of the season.” Christian Streich: “FCA started very well and pressed us to the point where we couldn’t find any space in the midfield. We were lucky to not go down by two. But then my boys gave everything and managed to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Augsburg will always be threatening going forward, but the draw is still a bitter pill to swallow. I have no desire to criticize my team though, because they gave their all. Augsburg are a very strong side.”
