“We can travel home with our heads held high”

After an incredible 96 minutes of football, Borussia Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer scored a last gasp winner to give his side a fortunate 4-3 home win over FC Augsburg. “We can hold our heads high as we travel home,” said FCA head coach Manuel Baum shortly after the defeat. Here are the post match interviews with Baum, his players and Dortmund coach Lucien Favre. Martin Hinteregger: “We can be proud of how we played today in Dortmund, especially in the form that our opponents are in. Dortmund only won the match because of a lucky moment in the final seconds. As much as the defeat is disappointing, there is a lot we can take from this positive performance.” Alfred Finnbogason, who opened the scoring for FCA: “The fans were the winners in today’s match. We put in a super performance for almost the entire 90 minutes and we deserved to take at least a point from the match. In the meantime, we also had chances to seal the match in our favour. Unfortunately, we were unable to do this and Dortmund came back.” André Hahn: “Usually, I sleep badly after football matches but it will be much more difficult to sleep on today’s result. We led twice today and although Dortmund came back twice and eventually took the lead, we had the courage and desire to find an equaliser. Of course, it is very bitter to go on and still take nothing from the match.” Michael Gregoritsch, who equalised for FCA at 3-3 in the 87th minute: “Today’s match was a rollercoaster of emotions and it ended in bitter disappointment for us. Dortmund deserve to be top of the table, but we deserved to take at least a point from the match today.” Manuel Baum: “I must praise the team for their performance today. We never allowed Dortmund to take control of the match, we defended courageously and always tried to play the ball forwards to create chances. We can travel home with our heads held high, even though I would’ve liked to have taken something out of the match. Borussia Dortmund possess a lot of quality and benefited from a slice of luck today, making it difficult for us.” Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre: “FC Augsburg played very well, pressing us in possession and it was difficult for us to find spaces on the pitch to exploit. Both teams created several chances and it was an emotional fantastic game of football.”
