First Team 30.12.2018, 15:00
As 2018 draws to a close, we look back on some memorable FC Augsburg moments throughout the year. Today in our end of year review: August. August started with some club celebrations. On 8th August, the 111th anniversary of the club, FC Augsburg invited all of its members to celebrate at the Rosenaustadion, FCA’s former home. The current players shared drinks and grilled sausages at the celebrations. Meanwhile, former players including fan favourite Tobias Werner and Claus Brandmair, who made a record number of club appearances, also attended. First opening matchday victory away at Düsseldorf FCA travelled to face Fortuna Düsseldorf on the opening matchday of the 2018/19 Bundesliga season. The visitors fell behind against the promoted side but managed to turn the match around in the second half. André Hahn and Martin Hinteregger scored to give FCA a 2-1 win. This was the first time that FCA had ever secured a win on the opening Bundesliga matchday of the season. There was also something for FCA fans to cheer about off the pitch. FC Augsburg club members voted unanimously to rename the standing terrace of the WWK ARENA in honour of former FCA player and 1954 World Cup winner Ulrich Biesinger. The stand was renamed as the “Ulrich-Biesinger-Stand.”
