FC Augsburg competed in their first friendly of their winter pre-season against Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in Marbella on Saturday. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, which wasn’t an unsatisfactory result according to manager Manuel Baum.
Manuel Baum: “We covered a lot of distance in both halves, despite the intensive training sessions recently. Especially before half-time we executed our attacking pressing very well. After the break we struggled a bit to get a grip on the game, but we stabilised again after making some changes. At the end of the match we had five players from our own youth teams on the pitch. It’s a shame that we didn’t convert from the last chance of the game to grab a late winner. But overall I’m satisfied with the teams’ performance.”
Paul Verhaegh: “It was an intensive game after some tough training sessions. But having tired legs is just a part of pre-season. We tried to execute our manager’s instructions as best as we could and I think we managed to show a solid performance.”
