FC Augsburg’s final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season took place in Ostallgäu on Friday night. FC Vaduz provided the opposition. Roughly 1,000 spectators watched the sides play out a goalless draw.
The first chance came after just 10 minutes when Ja-Cheol Koo fired over the bar when well placed. The South Korean had another effort moments later but was once again unable to hit the target. Caiuby was the next to try his luck from range, but his 29th-minute piledriver drifted over. Koo, Bobadilla and Alfred Finnbogason were all thwarted by a combination of wasteful finishing, good goalkeeping and resolute defending before the interval.
Dirk Schuster didn’t make any changes at the break and the chances continued to flow. Alfred Finnbogason fired straight at Benjamin Siegrist in the 49th minute, with Raul Bobadilla firing over shortly. The game then suffered a lull until the 70th minute when Bobadilla took aim from outside the box, however, Siegrist was on hand to tip the ball to safety. A number of changes were made in the final 15 minutes but despite fresh legs adding impetus to the FCA attacks, goals weren’t forthcoming, meaning that the game finished goalless.
