FC Augsburg beat 1. FC Sonthofen 2-0 in Dirk Schuster’s first friendly in charge of the club. 19 FCA players were on duty throughout the match, including recent signing Takashi Usami, who had only trained once with his teammates ahead of the fixture.
1,300 spectators witnessed the clash at the Sonthofer Sportanlage. FCA were dangerous throughout the match and created a plethora of chances, however, wasteful finishing and solid defending kept the score down throughout the game. Halil Altintop, Georg Teigl and Dominik Kohr fired in powerful efforts before the break but were thwarted, meaning it was goalless at the interval.
Numerous changes were made at the break, with only Philipp Max, Georg Teigl, Tim Rieder and Christoph Janker returning for the second half. The visitors continued to create chances but didn’t open the scoring until the 68th minute when Raul Bobadilla put Augsburg in front. The lead was doubled six minutes later when Takashi Usami netted after good work from Philipp Max.
